Resumo: | In this study, the authors try to investigate the main features of the nurses, according to spinal cord injured inpatients and to the nurses who work for a public hospital in Belo Horizonte. The results show that the patients give more importance to the human qualities the nurses have rather than the technical skills, therefore, the nurses give more importance to these technical skills. Thus, the results show the different expectations in the patient-nurse relationship. It is important to highlight the necessity of these professionals reflexion and awareness, in order that their practice goes beyond the assistance to the biological individual, redirecting this assistance to the fulfilment of patients real needs. |

Los resultados señalan que los pacientes atribuyen mayor importancia a las calidades humanas de los enfermeros, en relación a las habilidades técnicas y, en los relatos de los enfermeros se observó una valorización de las habilidades técnicas. En este sentido, los resultados retratan las diferentes aspiraciones y consecuentes divergencias en la relación enfermero-paciente. Se resalta la necesidad de la reflexión acerca de la situación por parte de estos profesionales, para que su práctica traspase simple asistencia al indivíduo biológico, redireccionándola para la demostración de las reales necesidades del paciente.Neste estudo propõe-se investigar as principais qualidades dos enfermeiros, sob o ponto de vista dos pacientes lesados medulares crônicos hospitalizados e dos próprios enfermeiros prestadores da assistência, em uma Instituição Pública, localizada em Belo Horizonte. Os resultados mostram que os pacientes atribuem maior importância às qualidades humanas dos enfermeiros, enquanto que nos relatos dos profissionais, observou-se uma grande valorização das habilidades técnicas, retratando, assim, as diferentes aspirações e consequentes divergências na relação enfermeiro-paciente.
