Resumo: The present research is a qualitative case study that aims to identify the mothers' experience of the home care service of premature infants after hospital discharge. Interviews were carried out at the mothers'home and then analysed and categorized according to Bardin's methodological framework. Four individuals participated in the study. Two categories emerged from the analyses of their account: "homecare: imaginary and reality", and "information: gaps between teaching and learning". According to the mothers the service should offer: information on vaccination, preparation and administration of medications, and an efficient flowchart with information on support services that will monitor the infant after hospital discharge. The health professional commitment must be constant, especially regarding the baby follow up program and making sure that homecare will be properly carried out

Se trata de un estudio de caso de enfoque cualitativo con entrevistas realizadas a domicilio y, posteriormente, analizadas y clasificadas según el referente metodológico de Bardin. Participaron del estudio cuatro sujetos. Del análisis de sus relatos se destacan dos categorías temáticas: (a) Cuidado domiciliario: del imaginario a la realidad; (b) Información: los huecos de la enseñanza - aprendizaje. Las necesidades apuntadas por las madres fueron: orientaciones relativas a la vacunación, preparación y administración de medicamentos y establecimiento de un diagrama de flujo eficiente de contra referencia junto a las redes de apoyo formales que realizan el seguimiento del niño tras el alta. El compromiso del profesional de salud debe ser constante, principalmente siguiendo de cerca al prematuro y garantizando la continuidad de los cuidados en el ambiente domiciliario.Neste estudo de caso com abordagem qualitativa, trata-se da vivência de mães de prematuros no cuidado domiciliar após a alta hospitalar. As entrevistas foram realizadas em domicílio e, posteriormente, analisadas e categorizadas conforme referencial metodológico de Bardin. Participaram do estudo quatro sujeitos. Da análise de seus relatos emergiram duas categorias temáticas: Cuidado domiciliar: do imaginário à realidade e Informações: as lacunas do ensino/aprendizado. As necessidades apontadas pelas mães foram: orientações direcionadas à vacinação, preparo e administração de medicações e estabelecimento de um fluxograma eficiente de contrarreferência com as redes de apoio formais que realizarão o acompanhamento do prematuro após a alta.
