Resumo: The General Alfredo Stroessner took over the Paraguayan presidency in 1954 and governed the country until 1989, when he went overthrown by a military uprising organized by Andrés Rodríguez. The civic-military dictatorship of Stroessner developed a repressive structure that censored all oppositions made. Students, artists, intellectuals, peasants, journalists, clergy, indigenous peoples, workers organized in trade unions and politicians linked to opposition parties to the government were the main targets of such repression. In view of this, the objective of this paper is to analyze the ways of how the Paraguayan society been was represented in four studies of the Stroessner regime, published between the 1980s and 1990s.

La dictadura cívico-militar de Stroessner desarrolló una estructura represiva que censuraba toda oposición. Estudiantes, artistas, intelectuales, campesinos, periodistas, clérigos, indígenas, trabajadores organizados en sindicatos y políticos vinculados a partidos opositores al gobierno fueron los principales objetivos de dicha represión. En vista de ello, el objetivo de este artículo es escudriñar las formas en que la sociedad paraguaya fue representada en cuatro estudios sobre el régimen de Stroessner publicados entre las décadas de 1980 y 1990.O General Alfredo Stroessner assumiu a presidência paraguaia em 1954 e governou o país até 1989, quando foi derrubado por uma quartelada organizada por Andrés Rodríguez. A ditadura cívico-militar de Stroessner desenvolveu uma estrutura repressiva que censurou todas as oposições realizadas. Estudantes, artistas, intelectuais, camponeses, jornalistas, clérigos, indígenas, trabalhadores organizados em sindicatos e políticos vinculados a partidos opositores ao governo foram os principais alvos de tal repressão.
