Neoliberalism and the hegemony of affections: politics, identify and the democratic threshold

Resumo: The present work arguably operates that the triumph of neoliberalism lies in its hegemonic ability to channel political and social passions to consumption, a skill that is realized from the great ability to adapt to different political contexts, economic and social that neoliberalism has. Thus, the analysis present in this work assumes that affections are fundamental to politics and that convergence around a common symbolic space is essential for the hegemony of an ideology. Thus, neoliberalism is triumphant in establishing itself as a hegemonic project in the West against the neoliberalization of affects. However, its ideology implies the fragmentation of collective identities led by the individualist project of American identity, abandoning otherness and interpersonal relations, essential to the dimension of politics. This process is thus accompanied by political exodus, a scenario that is allied to the process in which the current left is unable to mobilize social passions and respond to neoliberal problems. As a result, anti-establishment movements emerge that, although they have not yet crossed the boundaries of democracy, flirt with authoritarianism. The work seeks, thus, to understand how politics, identity and the limits of democracy are operated in the face of the neoliberalization of affects.

Así, el análisis presente en el trabajo parte del presupuesto de que los afectos son fundamentales para la política y que la convergencia en torno a un espacio simbólico común es esencial para la hegemonía de una ideología. De esta forma, el neoliberalismo es triunfante en establecerse como proyecto hegemónico en occidente frente a la neoliberalización de los afectos. Sin embargo, su ideología implica la fragmentación de las identidades colectivas capitaneadas por el proyecto individualista del identitarismo norteamericano, abandonando la alteridad y las relaciones interpersonales, esenciales para la dimensión del político. Ese proceso, así, es acompañado por el éxodo político, escenario que se alía al proceso en que la izquierda actual se muestra incapaz de movilizar pasiones sociales y de responder a los problemas neoliberales. Como resultado, surgen movimientos anti-establishment que, aunque aún no han traspasado los límites de la democracia, coquetean con el autoritarismo. El trabajo busca, de esa forma, comprender cómo la política, la identidad y los límites de la democracia son operados ante la neoliberalización de los afectos.O presente trabalho opera argumentativamente que o triunfo do neoliberalismo reside na sua capacidade hegemônica de canalização das paixões políticas e sociais para o consumo, uma aptidão que se concretiza a partir da grande habilidade de adaptação a diferentes contextos políticos, econômicos e sociais que o neoliberalismo possui. Assim, a análise presente no trabalho parte do pressuposto de que os afetos são fundamentais para a política e que a convergência em torno de um espaço simbólico comum é essencial para a hegemonia de uma ideologia. Dessa forma, o neoliberalismo é triunfante em se estabelecer enquanto projeto hegemônico no ocidente frente a neoliberalização dos afetos. Contudo, sua ideologia implica na fragmentação das identidades coletivas capitaneadas pelo projeto individualista do identitarismo norte americano, abandonando a alteridade e as relações interpessoais, essenciais para a dimensão do político. Esse processo, assim, é acompanhado pelo êxodo político, cenário que se alia ao processo em que a esquerda atual se mostra incapaz de mobilizar paixões sociais e de responder aos problemas neoliberais. Como resultado, surgem movimentos anti-establishment que, apesar de ainda não ultrapassaram os limites da democracia, flertam com o autoritarismo.
