Performativity politics: the Praia da Estação's experience in Belo Horizonte and the affirmation of a minor right

This article proposes a reflection on the performative character of politics and law through the experience of Praia da Estação in Belo Horizonte and in dialogue with Carla Rodrigues, Félix Guattari, Gilles Deleuze, Igor Oliveira, Judith Butler and Thálita Motta. This urban experience is an artistic-cultural event that has occurred since 2010, transforming the central square of the capital of Minas Gerais (a State without a sea) into a true beach. It comes after the Decree nº 13.798/2009 of the mayor Márcio Lacerda, prohibiting the holding of events of any kind in Estação’s Square. I understand that the Praia da Estação is an event that celebrates the performative power of bodies that Judith Butler talks about. Bodies that put into effect the public character of the square and the right to the city in the very act of carrying out its manifestation. Also in dialogue with the “minor literature” of Deleuze and Guattari, this performative dimension represents, in my view, a minority becoming of law as the task of the people. A minor law capable of constituting other possible worlds.
