Redignifying utopia as an instrument of criticism

Resumo: The purpose of the present work is to explain the original positive meaning of the idea of Utopia and its uses, and then to critically analyze the process of discrediting the category in representations of mere unfeasible fantasies, above all, from modernity with the development and intensification of Science and technology in the context of capitalism.It is intended to emphasize the important contribution for the process of discrediting the utopian functions of the critique elaborated by Marx and Engels on the separation between utopian socialism and scientific socialism, highlighting the later reception and vulgarization of this critique by the economicist currents of Marxism. Finally, it is defended the utility and necessity of the rescue of utopia in contemporary times, making use of authors inserted in the critical theory and committed to the search for a new utopian spirit that redignifies its uses. In this context, the notion of concrete utopia of Ernst Bloch and his proposal of a new relationship between man and nature based on a technique of alliance are highlighted.

Se pretende subrayar la importante contribución de la crítica elaborada por Marx y Engels sobre la separación entre socialismo utópico y socialismo científico al proceso de descrédito de las funciones utópicas, destacando la posterior recepción y vulgarización de esta crítica por las corrientes economicistas del marxismo. Finalmente, defendemos la utilidad y necesidad de rescatar la utopía en la época contemporánea, apoyando nuestra posición en autores insertos en la teoría crítica y comprometidos con la búsqueda de un nuevo espíritu utópico que redignifique sus usos. En este contexto, destacamos el concepto de utopía concreta en Ernst Bloch y su propuesta de una nueva relación entre el hombre y la naturaleza, basada en una técnica de alianza.O objetivo do presente trabalho é explicitar o sentido positivo original da ideia de Utopia e de seus usos, para então analisar criticamente o processo de descrédito da categoria em representações de meras fantasias irrealizáveis, sobretudo, a partir da modernidade, com o desenvolvimento e intensificação da ciência e da técnica no contexto do capitalismo. Pretende-se enfatizar a importante contribuição da crítica elaborada por Marx e Engels acerca da separação entre socialismo utópico e socialismo científico para o processo de descrédito das funções utópicas, destacando a posterior recepção e vulgarização dessa crítica pelas correntes economicistas do marxismo. Por fim, defende-se a utilidade e necessidade do resgate da utopia na contemporaneidade, sustentando nossa posição em autores inseridos na teoria crítica e comprometidos com a busca de um novo espírito utópico que redignifique seus usos.
