Resumo: The goal of this article is to pinpoint some effects that expand timbric possibilities for the use of timpani. For this purpose, the work Konzertstück fur Pauken und Orchester, by Mauricio Kagel, will be used as an example. This concert has been commented, above all, taking into account its scenic aspects, since Kagel acquired notoriety in the style known as musical theater. However, alongside these aspects determined for performance, the Concert Piece for Timpani and Orchestra presents innovative procedures related to timbric exploration on the timpani. These procedures, in addition to expanding the repertoire of possibilities specified in manuals and orchestration treatises, also present challenges to the instrument's performance technique. In this sense, this article considers the innovations created by the composer and proposes to expand the scope of procedures prescribed in the literature on writing for timpani.

Esta obra ha sido comentada, sobre todo, teniendo en cuenta sus aspectos escénicos, ya que Kagel adquirió notoriedad en el estilo conocido como teatro musical. Sin embargo, junto a estos aspectos determinados para la interpretación, el Concierto para timbales y orquesta presenta procedimientos innovadores relacionados con la exploración tímbrica en los timbales. Estos procedimientos, además de ampliar el marco de posibilidades especificado en manuales y tratados de orquestación, también presentan desafíos a la técnica de ejecución del instrumento. En ese sentido, este artículo considera las innovaciones creadas por el compositor y propone ampliar el alcance de los procedimientos prescritos en la literatura sobre escritura para timbales.O objetivo deste artigo é apontar alguns efeitos que ampliam possibilidades tímbricas para uso dos tímpanos. Para tanto, será utilizado como exemplo a obra Konzertstück fur Pauken und Orchester, de Mauricio Kagel. Essa obra tem sido comentada, sobretudo, levando-se em conta seus aspectos cênicos, já que Kagel adquiriu notoriedade no estilo conhecido por teatro musical. Entretanto, ao lado desses aspectos determinados para a performance, o Concerto para Tímpanos e Orquestra apresenta procedimentos inovadores relativos à exploração tímbrica nos tímpanos. Esses procedimentos, além de expandirem o arcabouço de possibilidades especificados nos manuais e tratados de orquestração, também apresentam desafios à técnica de execução no instrumento.
