Familiares cuidando de idosos no domicílio: uma revisão integrativa da literatura

The number of older people has a high population and in Brazil, leading to a change in the demographic and epidemiological profile. The elderly are living longer,are affected by this reality by chronic illnesses that can lead to a picture of mental and physical dependence. It is necessary, in relation to the picture of health problems, the intervention of a caregiver, with the goal of developing an efficient and effective service, providing quality of life among the elderly. Given the above, this work aims at an integrativeliterature review in order to identify some characteristics of family caregivers of the elderly and the difficulties encountered by them for the care. We selected 16 articles in the literature in the database LILACS and MEDLINE, and then done their reading and data collection. We prepared a data frame adapted the instrument proposed by Pollitos, Beck and Hungler of articles containing information collected in relation to the characteristics offamily caregivers and the difficulties encountered by family members caregivers to perform care by the elderly. It was found that family members end up being responsible for the development of this action with the elderly. The wife and / or daughter is the family member who usually becomes the caregiver. Caring for an elderly require guidance,perseverance and support from other family members and especially the professionals of health teams. The nurse as a team member is able to develop actions for guidance,assistance and supervision to caregivers regarding care of greater complexity. The health team should be involved in supporting family caregivers of elderly people, making a plan of care through the teaching and learning of the caregiver.
