In this study, we sought to understand how the symbolization process of the child in front of fairy tales occurs. To this end, we employed the Freudian theory about symbolization and its aspects - replacement of a representation by another and replacement of a representation by an affection - and articulate the specificities of fairy tales. The theory presented suggests that the symbolization enables the construction of fantasies and help organize the psychic space, especially in regard to movement of the affections. The story offers the child stereotypical representations that symbolize the unconscious fantasies, terrifying. Thus, as soon as the symbolization occurs, which was terrifying becomes more reasonable, less threatening.
