Em um automóvel, a suspensão é responsável por absorver os impactos e ruídos da via, oferecendo conforto e segurança aos passageiros e a mola é um de seus componentes principais. O estudo da influência de parâmetros geométricos no comportamento mecânico da mola helicoidal embasa a análise de viabilidade da substituição do componente original metálico por um de material composto, considerando uma seção transversal não usual (elipse). Foi proposta uma abordagem para o cálculo de rigidez da mola helicoidal e a substituição do componente se mostrou possível, observando critérios de massa, rigidez e conforto no veículo.Automobile production companies aim to reduce vehicle mass as a way to reduce fuel consumption for economic and environmental reasons. Therefore, composite material components are of great interest to replace metal components due to the high mechanical strength and low density. Suspension is responsible for absorbing the impacts and road noise, providing comfort and safety to passengers in the vehicle and the spring is one of its main components. The study of the influence of geometric parameters on the mechanical behavior of spring supports the feasibility analysis of the replacement of the original metal component by one of composite material, considering an unusual cross section (ellipse).
