Resumo: It has been observed that many mothers discontinue breastfeeding prematurely for not knowing how to prevent or treat the problems that arise in the early days of puerperium. This study aimed to describe the performance of the Family Health Team, especially the professional nurse in the prevention and treatment of breast engorgement and encouraging breastfeeding. To this end, we opted for the type of narrative literature review supported by the report author's own experience. used to search the articles in electronic databases: the Latin American Caribbean Health Sciences (Lilacs), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Google Scholar. Were also used books from the library of the University of Uberaba - UNIUBE. Highlights of the study, the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, the importance of preparing women for breastfeeding and assistance of professionals in the Family Health Team as motivators of healthy habits. In relation to breast enlargement and other complications of the puerperium, it is recommended a plan of care with early March with the discovery of pregnancy. The professionals of the Family Health Team is responsible for promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding.

Este estudo objetivou descrever a atuação da Equipe de Saúde da Família, em especial do profissional enfermeiro, na prevenção e tratamento do ingurgitamento mamário e estímulo à amamentação. Para tanto, optou-se pela revisão bibliográfica do tipo narrativa apoiada pelo relato de experiência da própria autora. Utilizou-se a busca em artigos das bases eletrônicas: Literatura Latino-Americana do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (Lilacs); Scientific Eletronic Library Online (Scielo) e Google Acadêmico. Também foram utilizados livros da biblioteca da Universidade de Uberaba UNIUBE. São destaques do estudo as vantagens da amamentação exclusiva, a importância do preparo da mulher para o aleitamento e a assistência dos profissionais da Equipe de Saúde da Família como motivadores de hábitos saudáveis. Em relação ao ingurgitamento mamário e outras complicações do período puerperal, recomenda-se um plano de cuidados com início precoce com marco no descobrimento da gravidez.
