Resumo: Este trabajo presenta un análisis contrastivo de cinco unidades léxicas del español (humano, individuo, persona, ser humano y sujeto) y de sus equivalentes en portugués. Está basado en estudios recientes sobre los nombres generales y los procesos de gramaticalización. El examen de diferentes datos (obras lexicográficas, corpus electrónicos y tests de aceptabilidad) muestra una fuerte simetría de ser humano en ambas lenguas. Por otro lado, humano está más integrado al léxico del español, mientras en portugués lo están indivíduo y sujeito. Se comprueba asimismo una gran frecuencia y aceptabilidad de pessoa y su importancia en los casos de indefinitud y de indeterminación del sujeto en portugués.

It is based on the recent studies about the general nouns and the grammaticalization processes. The analysis of different data (lexicographic works, electronic corpora, acceptability tests) show a strong similarity of ser humano in both languages. On the other hand, humano is more integrated into the Spanish lexicon, while in Portuguese indivíduo and sujeito are preferred.
