Resumo: This research analyzes the effectiveness of policies and practices of professional training of women deprived of liberty, instituted in Minas Gerais, specifically in the prison units of the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte. The dissertation contemplates discussions about the historical correlation between the mode of production of material life and punitive forms, public policies of work and education in the prison system, social relations of sex and the sexual division of labor, imprisonment of women, among others. These themes are approached based on the contributions of Karl Marx, theorists of marxist affiliation and researchers of the line “Labor and Education”. A qualitative research was carried out, based on the documentary analysis and semi-structured interviews with 14 women deprived of freedom who were carrying out or concluded professional training courses inside the two units investigated. The interviews, the visits to the Complexo Penitenciário Feminino and the Presídio Feminino, as well as the conversations with the professionals, were recorded in a field notebook. The research was guided by the following problem: “What is the effectiveness of the policies and practices instituted in the prison units of the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte for the professional training and work of the victims?” And from that, the effects of the courses were demonstrated (sewing and hairdressing) in the educational/professional, social and personal dimensions of women deprived of their liberty, addressing the professionalization process, the intra and extramural relationships and their future expectations. It is hoped that the dissertation will contribute to the debate on the subject, both in relation to the production of knowledge and in the provision of subsidies to the formative processes in the prison system and to the development of sectoral public policies.

A dissertação contempla as discussões sobre o correlacionamento histórico entre o modo de produção da vida material e as formas punitivas, as políticas públicas de trabalho e educação no sistema prisional, as relações sociais de sexo e a divisão sexual do trabalho, o encarceramento das mulheres, entre outras. As referidas temáticas são abordadas com base nas contribuições de Karl Marx, de teóricos de filiação marxista e de pesquisadores da Linha “Trabalho e Educação”. Realizou-se uma pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa, a partir da análise documental e da realização de entrevistas semiestruturadas com 14 mulheres privadas de liberdade que estavam realizando ou concluído cursos de formação profissional no interior das duas unidades investigadas. As entrevistas, as visitas ao Complexo Penitenciário Feminino e ao Presídio Feminino, bem como as conversas com as profissionais, foram registradas em caderno de campo. A pesquisa foi orientada pelo seguinte problema: “Qual é a efetividade das políticas e das práticas instituídas nas unidades prisionais da Região Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte para a formação profissional e trabalho das apenadas?” E a partir desse, demonstrou-se os efeitos dos cursos investigados (de costura e de cabeleireiro) nas dimensões educacional/profissional, social e pessoal da mulheres privadas de liberdade, abordando o processo de profissionalização, as relações intra e extramuros e as expectativas de futuro delas.
