Violência e trabalho policial sob a ótica de duas polícias : uma análise das percepções de policiais militares e civis sobre os homicídios na Região Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte

The present study focuses on the perceptions of military and civil police officers regarding the dynamics of intentional homicides combined with the actions and alternatives for preventing and reducing homicides proposed by these actors in the context of the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte. In addition to the different duties, the state police are marked by different training processes and organizational structures. However, both have been marked by a traditional police model, where strong occupational hierarchies, repression and discourse to fight crime prevail, to the detriment of greater proximity to the community and among the police. In this sense, the study aims to understand how the dynamics of intentional homicides, as well as police action and alternatives to cope with this phenomenon are represented by the agents of these organizations. The empirical material used is the result of interviews and focus groups with military and civil police officers directly involved in the prevention, repression and investigation of violent deaths. The literature on police organizations often points out that the beliefs and values socially elaborated within the organization and shared among its members are important guides for practices and conduct. It is intended, from a comparative analysis between these two organizations, to identify the possible convergences and divergences in the representations about violent deaths in the context of the RMBH and the role of the police in that context. It is hoped that in this way the study can contribute to the understanding of the ways in which these organizations operate.
