Resumo: The elaboration of Knowledge Organization Systems (KOS) is based on the establishment of semantic relations between their concepts, aiming the creation of a coherent conceptual structure. Different KOS have different levels of relational representation, which are dependent on the type of structure that each tool requires to represent the knowledge base. It is observed, however, that there is a problem in the comprehension of what are the objectives and purposes of different types of KOS, especially their elaboration and use. This paper intends to present a comparative study on the construction of KOS about the type of taxonomy, classification system, thesauri and ontologies, from the presentation of a practical analysis. It has the purpose to demonstrate the characteristics of KOS conceptual structures, uses, potentialities and limitations, verifying and demonstrating how the semantic relationships are being incorporated into the tools.

Diferentes SOCs possuem distintos níveis de representação relacional, que são dependentes do tipo de estrutura que cada instrumento requer para representar a base do conhecimento. Nota-se, entretanto, que existe um problema no entendimento sobre quais são os objetivos e propósitos de diferentes tipos de SOCs, principalmente sobre sua elaboração e uso.
