Eighteen adult male amateur soccer players (24.0 ± 4.1 years old) were assessed. Three-dimensional kinematics and ground reaction force were measured. A 6-degrees-of-freedom model was assumed, comprising the upper trunk, lower trunk, pelvis, thigh, shank and foot, and the thoraco-lumbar, lumbo-pelvic, hip, knee, and ankle joints. Angular kinematics and joint moments were computed. Power flow analysis was done by calculating the joint powers (to describe joint-to-segments energy transfers) and the proximal and distal segment powers (to describe segment-to-segment transfers). Power, kinematic and kinetic time series were presented to describe the energy flows’ directions. The total mechanical energy expenditure (TMEE) at each joint was also calculated. The TMEEs pointed to substantial energy expenditure at the trunk (27% of the summed work produced by the analyzed joints). In the initial phases of kicking, the trunk generates downward energy flows from the upper to the lower trunk and from the lower trunk to the pelvis, and then to the lower limb, sequentially, which favors angular motions for ball contact. There is a formation and release of a tension arc only at the hip joint, and deceleration of the segments slightly sooner than ball contact, differently from theoretical accounts. There are energy flows, hitherto unknown, among the trunk, pelvis and kick limb, revealing mechanical strategies of kicking.O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar as transferências e gastos de energia cinética angular entre o tronco (bissegmentado), a pelve e o membro do chute durante chutes máximos do peito do pé do futebol, e caracterizar a cinética e a cinemática do chute. Foram avaliados 18 jogadores adultos de futebol amador do sexo masculino (24,0 ± 4,1 anos). A cinemática tridimensional e a força de reação do solo foram medidas. Foi assumido um modelo de 6 graus de liberdade, compreendendo a parte superior do tronco, parte inferior do tronco, pelve, coxa, perna e pé, e as articulações toraco-lombar, lombo-pélvica, quadril, joelho e tornozelo. A cinemática angular e os momentos articulares foram calculados. A análise do fluxo de potência foi feita calculando as potências articulares (para descrever as transferências de energia da articulação para os segmentos) e as potências dos segmentos proximal e distal (para descrever as transferências de segmento para segmento). Séries temporais de potência, cinemáticas e cinéticas foram apresentadas para descrever as direções dos fluxos de energia. O gasto total de energia mecânica (TMEE) em cada articulação também foi calculado. Os TMEEs apontaram gasto energético substancial no tronco (27% do trabalho somado produzido pelas articulações analisadas). Nas fases iniciais do chute, o tronco gera fluxos de energia descendentes da parte superior para a inferior do tronco e da parte inferior do tronco para a pelve e depois para o membro inferior, sequencialmente, o que favorece movimentos angulares para o contato com a bola. Há formação e liberação de um arco de tensão apenas na articulação do quadril, e desaceleração dos segmentos um pouco antes do contato com a bola, diferentemente dos relatos teóricos. Existem fluxos de energia, até então desconhecidos, entre o tronco, a pelve e o membro do chute, revelando estratégias mecânicas de chute.CNPq - Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e TecnológicoFAPEMIG - Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Minas GeraisCAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível SuperiorengUniversidade Federal de Minas GeraisUFMGBrasilEEF - DEPARTAMENTO DE FISIOTERAPIAJournal of biomechanicsFutebolFenômenos biomecânicosCinéticaTransferência de energiaSoccer kickingBiomechanicsKinetic chainPower flowMechanical energyThe trunk is exploited for energy transfers of maximal instep soccer kick: a power flow studyO tronco é explorado para transferências de energia em chutes máximos do peito do pé: um estudo de fluxo de potênciainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlehttps://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0021929021002050Diego da Silva CarvalhoJuliana de Melo OcarinoAline de Castro CruzLeonardo Drumond BarsanteBreno Gonçalves TeixeiraRenan Alves ResendeSergio Teixeira da FonsecaThales Rezende Souzaapplication/pdfinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório Institucional da UFMGinstname:Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG)instacron:UFMGLICENSELicense.txtLicense.txttext/plain;
