Resumo: This research presents a study of the behavior of built-up compressed steel members composed of concentric hot rolled circular hollow sections. The use of these members is an innovative solution of practical interest for situations in which a single member does not reach the required compressive strength. Some technically and economically viable design and fabrication solutions to built-up members composed of concentric hot rolled circular hollow sections are presented. For the validation of numerical results, models of singular hollow sections are made and compared to the EN 1993-1-1, and the results obtained with numerical models were satisfactory. The compression resistance of these numerical models differs less than 9% from the EN 1993-1-1 values. Once the numerical modeling was validated, the study of built-up members was made, considering the tubes always united at the extremities by end plates, and along the length by fixed interconnections or sliding interconnections or, furthermore, without interconnections. For these three different conditions, several numerical models using FEM via Abaqus software were simulated to obtain and compare the compression resistance. The results show that these built-up sections with fixed and sliding interconnections have very similar behavior to the results obtained with European Standard procedure, when considering equivalent areas and inertias for the built-up section. Also, it shows that this observation does not apply to the sections without interconnections. Comparative graphs of compression resistance curves were generated, as also some graphs that show the distribution of the compressive force between each member of the built-up section. Finally, a formulation for the design of built-up sections without interconnections along the tubes was proposed to avoid robust computational methods.

A utilização destes membros é uma solução inovadora e de interesse prático para situações em que um único membro não atinge a resistência à compressão exigida. São apresentadas algumas soluções de projeto e fabricação técnica e economicamente viáveis para elementos construídos compostos por seções ocas circulares concêntricas laminadas a quente. Para a validação dos resultados numéricos são confeccionados modelos de secções tubulares singulares e comparados com a EN 1993-1-1, sendo os resultados obtidos com modelos numéricos satisfatórios. A resistência à compressão destes modelos numéricos difere menos de 9% dos valores da EN 1993-1-1. Validada a modelagem numérica, foi feito o estudo dos elementos constituídos, considerando os tubos sempre unidos nas extremidades por placas de extremidade, e ao longo do comprimento por interligações fixas ou deslizantes ou, ainda, sem interligações. Para estas três condições diferentes, vários modelos numéricos utilizando FEM via software Abaqus foram simulados para obter e comparar a resistência à compressão. Os resultados mostram que estes troços construídos com interligações fixas e deslizantes têm um comportamento muito semelhante aos resultados obtidos com o procedimento da Norma Europeia, quando se consideram áreas e inércias equivalentes para o troço construído. Além disso, mostra que esta observação não se aplica aos trechos sem interligações. Foram gerados gráficos comparativos de curvas de resistência à compressão, bem como alguns gráficos que mostram a distribuição da força compressiva entre cada membro da seção construída. Por fim, foi proposta uma formulação para o dimensionamento de seções construídas sem interconexões ao longo dos tubos para evitar métodos computacionais robustos.CNPq - Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e TecnológicoFAPEMIG - Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Minas GeraisCAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível SuperiorengUniversidade Federal de Minas GeraisUFMGBrasilENG - DEPARTAMENTO DE ENGENHARIA ESTRUTURASLatin american journal of solids and structuresAço - estruturasCarga axialEngenharia de estruturasEstabilidade estruturalSteel structuresBuilt-up concentric tubular sectionsAxial compressionStructural stabilityBehavior and design of built-up compressed steel members composed of concentric hot rolled circular hollow sectionsComportamento e projeto de elementos construídos de aço comprimido compostos por seções ocas circulares concêntricas laminadas a quenteinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlehttps://www.scielo.br/j/lajss/a/NkP4wfDBhFyZtQfPYLzg5pS/?lang=en#Lucas Figueiredo GriloRicardo Hallal FakuryAna Lydia Reis de Castro e SilvaFrancisco Carlos RodriguesVictor Pereira Daldeganapplication/pdfinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório Institucional da UFMGinstname:Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG)instacron:UFMGORIGINALBehavior and design of built-up compressed steel members composed of concentric hot rolled circular hollow sections.pdfBehavior and design of built-up compressed steel members composed of concentric hot rolled circular hollow sections.pdfapplication/pdf1296595https://repositorio.ufmg.br/bitstream/1843/61946/2/Behavior%20and%20design%20of%20built-up%20compressed%20steel%20members%20composed%20of%20concentric%20hot%20rolled%20circular%20hollow%20sections.pdf815a44d974bcebc562b043b12e8fef58MD52LICENSELicense.txtLicense.txttext/plain;
