The National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf) is the main public credit policy offered to family farmers in the country, and its performance is a great precursor to the development of Brazilian agribusiness. Therefore, the objective of this work is to describe the development and importance of the National Program for Strengthening Family Farming in the Central-West region, during the period from 2018 to 2023. This research is exploratory, whose data were consulted in a secondary way, obtained on the website of the Central Bank of Brazil (Bacen). The results indicated that, in the period from 2018 to 2023, there was a significant increase in the amounts distributed by Pronaf, evolving from R$31 billion in 2018 to R$53.6 billion in 2023. The Central-West region, in the 2022/23 harvest, presented approximately 22% of the resources, corresponding to R$12 billion. Of this amount, producers in the states of Goiás, Distrito Federal, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul concentrated on taking out credit to finance and investing in their properties. However, there are some challenges when implementing Pronaf equally in all regions of Brazil, meaning that the region studied is the least covered by program credit. It is concluded that despite some challenges, Pronaf gains more importance every year by encouraging the development of agriculture for small producers and generating jobs and income.
