Wood gridshells are made up of pieces of wood shaped into double curvatures, providing rigidity and allowing curvilinear shapes to be achieved. Given a goal or project, the flat grid is curved until it reaches the shape of a shell. These structures can be used in both temporary and durable constructions, such as warehouses, yards, pavilions, museums, and hangars. Thus, it is a parametric structural model whose analyses are supported by finite elements; ideal for projects that need to cover large spans with less use of materials. In addition, the appropriate manufacture of wood helps to combat the greenhouse effect and promotes carbon sequestration. When analyzing the literature, it was found that each wood gridshell is unique; therefore, studies aimed at understanding its construction elements, techniques, materials, and theories are very specific to each case. Given that there are few such structures built worldwide, few written works, and considering the relevance of construction technologies that contribute to sustainability and add to Brazilian literature; therefore, this work proposes to develop an overview of the use and construction generalities of wood gridshell structures according to the state of the art.
