Cuidados paliativos em hospitais públicos e/ou filantrópicos de Campo Grande (MS): percepções de profissionais de saúde em relação ao conceito e as experiências vivenciadas

Palliative Care (CP) is care performed by an interdisciplinary team that seeks to provide quality of life to patients and their families, relieving pain and suffering in the face of an incurable disease. In Brazil, the Ministry of Health standardized palliative care through Resolution nº. 41 of October 31, 2018, which provides for guidelines for the organization of Palliative Care, within the scope of the Unified Health System (SUS). This research aimed to analyze the understanding of the concept of PC and the perception about the experiences lived in the practice of professionals working in Palliative Care services in public and / or philanthropic hospitals in Campo Grande (MS). For this, the method of analysis of the Collective Subject Discourse was used as a proposal for organization and tabulation of qualitative data of a verbal nature obtained through tructured interviews. The PC teams of the hospitals participating in the research are satisfactorily composed in relation to the professional areas recommended as basic by national and international recommendations. Most professionals participating in the research have some training in PC, either through basic training or specialization. Health professionals understand the concept o palliative care based on the principles proposed by the World Health Organization. The professionals' speeches pointed out that in practical experience there are challenges due to the theoretical, practical and psychological unpreparedness of health professionals to deal with PC, the family's lack of information about what palliative care is and what is intended when admitting a patient in this approach and the fragmentation in the Health Assistance Network (RAS) in relation to the access of patients and family members to PCs at different levels of care (primary, secondary and tertiary), leading to the discontinuity of care. The professionals mentioned aspects favorable to the practical experience in PC: the possibility of reframing their own lives, both in the personal and professional aspects, and the team work for bringing benefits in the day to day and for the patient. Professionals believe that the offer of PC contributes positively to the patients’ quality of life and in the relief of the suffering of family members. It was found that hospitals are in the process of building a palliative care service, but there is a lack of investments of various kinds. Therefore, it is noted that the systematization of palliative care still needs greater awareness and encouragement for its implementation.
