Objective: to assess the general quality of life, stroke and anxiety State in students of Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul – FAMED/UFMS. Material and methods: observational study of cross section between academics from 1st to 6th year of FAMED/UFMS in the year 2015. For data collection applied three questionnaires: a demographic characterization, the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief (WHOQOL-BREF) and diagnostic Inventory of anxiety Trait-State (IDATE). Descriptive statistics was applied for sociodemographic and characterization of the levels of the domains of the WHOQOL-BREF and IDATE, consisting of measures of central tendency and variability. Analytical statistical parametric was not used for the comparison of scores of WHOQOL-BREF domains and levels of anxiety assessed by IDATE-T (trace) and IDATE-(State). We used the Mann Whitney test, Kruskal Wallis and Friedman. Results: the sample (n = 320, 2015) featured uniformity according the year attended and the sex, with prevalence of white (70.6%) and marital status single (96.9%). Most scholars (58.7%) were from other States. About the habits of life, practice physical activity at most once a week (60.6%). Most scholars (96.6%) claimed not to smoke, and more than half of the sample reported frequent consumption of alcohol (62.5%). The choice of course is considered to be personal (82.5%), with majority interest in the realization of medical residency (94.7%). Professional expectations were good (39.6%). The WHOQOL-BREF returned self-assessment prevalent good quality of life (55.0%) and satisfaction with the own health (38.7%). The psychological domain (62.5) was lower than that of social relations (66.7) and the environment (65.5), (p = 0.007). In female minors were psychological domain scores (62.5) in respect of other areas (p = 0.004). In comparison with the male sex presented minors values in physical domains (60.7 vs. 67.9, p = 0.029) and psychological (62.5 vs. 66.7, p = 0.018). Between the years of progress (1st to 6th), there was no difference in the field environment (p = 0.023) and social relations (p = 0.003). For the 3rd year (p = 0.012), scores were lower for the psychological domain (62.5). The IDATE-E and IDATE-T showed moderate anxiety level (median 44), with a near-zero correlation between quality of life and the IDATE-T. The same occurred with IDATE-E. Conclusion: the sample presented good prospects on the profession and the quality of life of the scholars. The female sex proved more vulnerable in psychological and physical domains.
