Credit cooperatives have been generating contributions to the social and economic development of the localities in which they are situated. Considering this, the present study aims to analyze the contribution of a credit cooperative to the local and southern regional development in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. To achieve the intended objectives, a qualitative descriptive methodology was employed, with data collected through a questionnaire. Responses were obtained from a group of six members selected for the research based on convenience. The results identify positive effects and added values to a credit cooperative, such as reciprocal collaboration between the cooperative and its members, facilitating access to advantages and credits for economic growth in the region. Additionally, the cooperative's commitment to allocating part of its profits to a social fund has generated an optimistic perception, notably through the construction of a cancer hospital in the southern region. Thus, it is noticeable that credit cooperatives are increasingly gaining space in society, proving to be of utmost importance for gradual progress in local development.
