Resumo: | Mpox is a zoonotic viral disease that affects mammals, including humans, caused by the Monkeypox virus (MPXV). The disease is endemic on the African continent, but in 2022 there were several cases in other countries, demonstrating its rapid spread. In this sense, the present research aimed to describe the socio-epidemiological profile of Mpox in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, that year. To this end, a cross-sectional, descriptive, retrospective and qualitative epidemiological study was carried out in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Information was collected from the RedCap and e-SUS Sinan systems, comprising the following indicators: number of reported cases, municipality of residence , age group, education, race/color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, sexual behavior, signs/symptoms, forms of transmission, need for hospitalization, and final evolution of the case. 160 cases of Mpox were confirmed throughout the State in 2022, of which 145 individuals were considered eligible to apply an online questionnaire, consisting of questions related to their marital status, family income, pre-existing comorbidities, preventive actions, seeking treatment, following precautions, and post-illness behavioral changes. The information was subjected to descriptive statistical analysis using the R software version 4.2.2. The socio-epidemiological profile stood out for male individuals (88.8%), aged between 20 and 39 years (66.9%) and with higher education (44.4%). The main symptoms were rash (81.9%), sudden fever (59.6%) and genital/perianal lesions (50%), and the main route of transmission was sexual (61.9%). Study participants reported not knowing how the disease is transmitted in 47.8% of cases, and of those who did know, 42% said they had not taken any preventive measures. To obtain medical care, 69.6% of the questionnaire respondents sought the public network, 21.7% the private network, and 8.7% the public network and then the private network. Furthermore, 100% said they had performed home isolation. There was a behavioral change during the period of recovery from the disease, of which 66.7% avoided intimate and/or sexual contact, 57.1% avoided hugging and kissing, 47.6% increased the frequency of hygiene, 42.9% maintained habits, 28.6% avoided crowded environments and 23.8% adopted another type of measure. The study suggests the need to emphasize actions and care in the most vulnerable groups, in an ethical and humanitarian way. Keywords: Monkeypox virus. Socioepidemiological profile. Monkeypox. |

Monkeypox.
