Resumo: According to the SNIS (2021), 40.25% of the water in Brazil is lost during distribution, and we have, for example, Amapá that loses 74.84%, According to the SNIS (2021), 40.25% of the water in Brazil is lost during distribution, and we have, for example, Amapá that loses 74.84%, alarming to know that there are states that more water is lost than consumed. This information shows that a greater number of studies of loss analysis methods are needed in order to intervene and analyze the effectiveness of interventions. The main methods are: BABE (Breaks and Backgrounds Estimates), FAVAD (Fixed and Variable Area Discharge Paths), Top-down (water balance) and Bottom-up (method of evaluating the minimum night flow). The methods were studied according to the SWOT methodology, which is divided into 4 classifications: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Once these criteria were defined, the methods were classified into which should be prioritized in a system analysis, and it was concluded that it is pertinent to start studies on a system by the Top- Down method, and then as it proves pertinent, we can adopt more methods.
