Espaços públicos de Barra do Garças sob a ótica dos atributos de vitalidade urbana

The today's cities are getting aspect of inhospitality, since there is a constant emptying the streets because of the rise of technological vanguard and monopolistic commercial centers of the current cosmopolitan culture. In this scenario, public space, previously representative in urban daily life, is under a challenging environment, especially when one considers the influence of capital relations on strategic urban planning. Thus, considering the current context of the loss of representativeness of public spaces in urban life, the gradual decrease of urban vitality in Brazilian cities and the poor functioning of the public spaces of Barra do Garças, it became relevant to conduct a research with the objective of analyzing the public spaces of Barra do Garças under the conceptual perspective of urban vitality. Thus, the present work, first, contextualizes the urban vitality and its nuances, relating it to the social complexities that surround the Brazilian cities. Therefore, the discussion of urban vitality in the peripheries is a key element for understanding the motivations of the study. The applied methodology consists of the analysis of 12 localities of Barra do Garças according to attributes of urban vitality pre-defined in a checklist. Thus, the work describes the most striking characteristics of each public space analyzed in terms of the attributes defined by the same checklist, which in turn facilitated a satisfactory collection of results, which are distributed in conformity indexes arranged throughout the study. From these results, it was concluded that the public spaces of Barra do Garças present several nonconformities. However, it was also observed a horizon for improvements, aiming the development of urban structures and public policies that optimize the relations of use of the public spaces of the city. Finally, the work develops intervention proposals and relevant considerations about the analyzed public spaces and brings as an example the project - represented in images - of revitalization of the canteiro of Cristal Avenue, located in the neighborhood of São José, in the outskirts of Barra do Garças.
