The notion of green building has been strongly influenced by environmental certification systems. The certifications also serve to measure how sustainable a building is while still a method to raise the performance of buildings. Thus, the objective of this research was to carry out an economic evaluation of a single family dwelling in the city of Barra do Garças - MT. For that, the economic performance of two buildings, one conventional and the other for certification purposes, was analyzed by GBC Brasil Casa ®. The study dealt with the subject from a deductive perspective, through an exploratory research for being located in a poorly studied and bibliographical area because it was based on material already published from a quantitative approach. Budgets were considered and water and electricity expenditures for both buildings were accounted for, and an economic analysis was performed using the Unified Annual Cost (CA) method. The value of the CA of sustainable construction was lower than the conventional one, proving that its economic performance is superior, not to mention the health benefits of the occupants of the house and the reduction of environmental impacts, which are difficult to measure.
