The clinical trial processes and serological in hemotherapic services aimed at ensuring the quality and safety of blood that will be donated for the purpose of selecting suitable candidates for blood donation and delete unfit. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to identify and analyze the main disabilities of candidates for blood donation in the clinical and serological screening, considering their profiles in terms of age, sex and education level. This was a descriptive, retrospective study with a quantitative approach, performed in Unity Collection and Transfusion of Blood - UCT Sinop - MT. The sample was composed of 1,923 records of candidates who were rejected in clinical and serological screening, between 2013 and 2014. We identified the reasons for refusal, according to age, sex and educational level. The tabulation of the data was performed using the Microsoft Excel 2013 program, and data analysis was done using descriptive statistics. The research project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee, CAAE No. 38135614.0.0000.5541. In the period investigated attended 9,050 candidates for blood donation; of these, 7,127 (78.25%) were eligible and 1,923 (21.75%) unfit in clinical and serological screening. Of this total, 55.17% were male, and both sexes, the most unfit had completed high school and aged between 16 and 23 years. Among the identified disabilities, 1,413 (73.48%) were temporary and 510 (26.52) classified as definitive. The leading cause of permanent disability was a positive serology for hepatitis B (47.84%); and between the temporary was the most frequent risk behavior to Sexually Transmitted Infections, HIV and hepatitis. (15.78%). Therefore, from the data obtained, reinforces the need to develop awareness campaigns of the population on the ideal profile of a candidate for blood donation.
