Bariatric surgery has been shown to be a great aid technique in the clinical management of some cases of obesity. The surgical procedure results in loss of significant and lasting weight, improving comorbidities, preventing complications detrimental to quality of life and increasing longevity. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the quality of life of patients undergoing bariatric surgery after 1 year of surgery. cross-sectional study, carried out between the months of April to June 2015 in Cuiabá-MT. Participants were adults of both sexes, who underwent Y gastric bypass Roux-en. The quality of life was assessed 1 year after surgery, through the Bariatric Analysis and Reporting Outcome System Protocol (BAROS), validated and recognized internationally. Among the 41 evaluated, 78.05% were female and 21.95% male, mean age 41.6 ± 8.8 and 35.6 ± 10.1 years, respectively. In the pre and postoperative period, patients had a mean BMI of 41.2 ± 6.8 kg / m² and 27.1 ± 4.9 kg / m², respectively. The average excess weight loss percentage was 74.9%. According to the classification of BAROS protocol, only 4.9% of patients had quality of life classified as good, 48.8% and 46.3% very good excellent, and no patient had classified as poor quality of life or acceptable. It follows that the effective surgical treatment brought benefits to patients, since they obtained an improved quality of life as a result of weight loss.
