This study is an analysis of the risk of groundwater contamination in the area of influence of the "rubbish dump" of Rondonópolis and arose from the need of residents of the Mata Grande region, prison population, servants and visitors of Major Eldo Penitentiary Sá Correa, known as the Penitentiary of Mata Grande receive good quality water for consumption. In view of the presence of environmental liabilities in the area, such as Mata Grande open-air dump and cemeteries, there is a potential risk of contamination of groundwater, since almost all the consumption and use of this water occurs through water resources. The applied research techniques were the direct documentation, field research and intensive direct observation of the proposed study object, the data were spatialized as thematic maps in order to represent the real space occupied, that is, the use and production of the geographic space. The main objective of this study is to know and recognize the real risk of contamination of groundwater in the Mata Grande region caused by the main environmental liability existing there, the open dump. As well as exposing a situation risk to the environment and public health of all who make use of the underground water resource of the region. Through this research, it was verified that the region of Mata Grande, does not contemplate the Brazilian Constitution, with respect to its environmental preservation, where everyone has a right to the environment ecologically balanced, well of common use of the people and essential to the healthy quality of life, imposing on the public power and the collective the duty to defend it and preserve it for the present and future generations.
