Avaliação ecocardiográfica de quatis (Nasua nasua) mantidos em cativeiro

Echocardiography is the preferred method for diagnosing heart disease, but proper interpretation of the results depends on knowing the normal echocardiographic parameters of each species. Thus, this study was conducted to determine initial echocardiographic parameters of coatis in captivity. Nine adults coatis from UFMT Zoological underwent to an echocardiographic examination under general anesthesia to assess the diameter of the aorta (Ao), left atrium (LA), left ventricular dimensions in systole and diastole, ejection fraction, fractional shortening and trans-valvular blood flow. Statistical analysis showed no correlation between the cardiac parameters and the body weight and heart rate, and no significant differences between genders. The ratio LA / Ao measured was similar to that described in dogs weighing from 4.0 to 55 kg. In M mode the results were similar to the ones found in breeds Yorkshire Terrier and Oncilla (Leopardus tigrinus), by the body weights approach. The wave E and wave A have preformed biphasic in all animals and the results were similar to those previously found in cats and dogs.
