Resumo: The reduction of green areas in cities caused by urban growth contributes to the process of environmental degradation. Therefore, it is necessary to search for sustainable alternatives for construction that will reduce the impacts caused on the environment. In this way, the green roof system appears as an alternative to minimize the effects of environmental degradation, such as heat islands. The objective of this work, through bibliographic review, is to define and present the advantages and disadvantages of extensive green roofs, to compare the performance regarding to the thermic comfort of traditional systems and extensive green roof systems and, finally, to perform a cost analysis comparison between green roof systems and a traditional system. The comparison of costs with the intention to verify the economic viability of the implantation of a green roof in the city of Barra do Garças, MT, was made through the composition of the cost estimation of the coverage of each system through the SINAPI table and data provided by specialized companies, using the same standard residence basis. It is concluded that the application of the green roof has an initial cost in the range of 32% bigger than a traditional system, but becomes viable in the city when it considers its long-term benefits, such as the energy savings generated and the increase in the life cycle of the coverage, in addition to all the environmental benefits generated.

Sendo assim, torna-se necessária a busca de alternativas sustentáveis de construção que diminuam os impactos causados no meio ambiente. Desta forma, o sistema de telhado verde surge como alternativa de minimizar os efeitos da degradação ambiental, como as ilhas de calor. O trabalho tem como objetivo, através de revisão bibliográfica, definir e apresentar as vantagens e desvantagens de telhados verdes extensivos, comparar o desempenho em relação ao conforto térmico de sistemas construtivos tradicionais e sistemas construtivos de telhado verde extensivos e, ao final, fazer uma análise comparativa de custos entre sistemas de telhados verdes e um sistema tradicional. A comparação de custos com a intenção de verificar a viabilidade econômica da implantação de um telhado verde na cidade de Barra do Garças, MT, foi realizada através da composição do orçamento da cobertura de cada sistema através da tabela SINAPI e de dados fornecidos por empresas especializadas, utilizando de base a mesma residência padrão.
