The prison units in Brazil, with regard to persons deprived of their liberty with transmissible diseases, first stands out, HIV / AIDS, followed by syphilis, hepatitis, and tuberculosis. HIV / AIDS infection in the world affects specific social groups, including the deprived population, which has a higher HIV prevalence when compared to the general population. The purpose of this study was to analyze the perceptions and meanings of the man with HIV / AIDS in the condition of deprivation of liberty of the Penitentiary Osvaldo Florentino Leite Ferreira accompanied in the SAE-Sinop. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach With six men, from October to November 2016. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, exploring information, which culminated in the characterization of the respondents, knowledge about the HIV virus and AIDS; Perceptions about the condition of being arrested and carrying the HIV / AIDS virus; As well as the knowledge and meanings of antiretroviral therapy for HIV / AIDS. The participants ranged in age from 28 to 48 years of age, 17% were illiterate, 17% were literate and 67% had incomplete primary education; The results permeated knowledge about the HIV virus and AIDS, demonstrating nonexistent or deficient. With regard to perceptions about the status of being arrested and carrying the HIV / AIDS virus, they reported their concern about prejudice, expressing feelings of impotence towards HIV and imprisonment. In relation to ART, they presented lack of knowledge regarding the objectives of the drug action. Thus, it is possible to conclude that it is necessary to ensure respect for the human rights of detainees in relation to their health, through the promotion of preventive, diagnostic and adequate assistance actions, mainly related to HIV / AIDS, since these people are private Of freedom and not of the human rights inherent in their citizenship.
