Violence against women is a complex, social and public health phenomenon, which affects all social classes, cultures and age groups. Inserted in this context is the woman with a family member deprived of liberty (PPL), who is also subject to various forms of violence, but with some aggravating factors, including stigma and prejudice due to kinship with an imprisoned person. The objective of this paper was to understand the types of violence suffered by mothers of family members in deprivation of liberty. The methodology used involved a qualitative and exploratory study, using secondary information from a doctoral thesis database. In order to interpret the data, a full reading of the speeches of the participating mothers was carried out, thus making it possible to capture the subjective data of the interviewees. After reading it, the data were examined by content analysis, making it possible to identify the types of violence suffered by PPL mothers. The results found showed that the average age of the mothers was 55 years old, they declared themselves brown or black, the average income was three minimum wages and the majority had a low education level. In relation to the violence suffered, the patrimonial and institutional types were identified. It was concluded that the mothers feel forced to dispose of their capital to meet the needs of their child in deprivation of liberty, and through the prison institution, professionals attend them with arrogance, harshness, contempt, and at the same time, they are judged by the crimes they didn't commit.
