This work has the objective to demonstrate any association between economic de-velopment of the municipality of Nova Mutum/MT measured by the HDI and GINI in-dex and the variation in the rates of homicides between 2000 and 2013. It seeks to identify the economic and population growth has relation with the murders and at-tempted murders in the city. The approach used was the literature on the subject and statistics research with the Coordinator of the SESP Intelligence Assistant Statistics and at the police station in the city of Nova Mutum/MT and analysis of collected dice. The survey results indicate that the HDI and Gini index factors are relation so as not supporting the hypothesis explaining the variation in homicide rates by the variation of socio-economic indicators.
