In today's society, any financial savings are welcome, and in the area of electrical energy this is no different. The costs in energy bills in homes and businesses have always been a reason for concern for its consumers. Knowing this, this work aims to circumvent the high values of electricity tariffs, seeking solutions through contractual changes of the consumer unit, with the distribution concessionaire. Thus, the characteristics of the national tariff system will be presented, such as its tariff groups and modalities, and highlighting their advantages and disadvantages. Knowing the different nuances that the system has, a tool was developed that makes a projection of the costs of electricity at the respective consumer unit, and through changes in its tariff mode, and its peak and off-peak demand contract, it is possible to verify a reduction in costs with the electricity bill. As a final result and a possible performance validation of the tool created, a case study was carried out, based on the consumption history and tariff classification of the consumer unit of the Federal University of Mato Grosso, Cuiabá campus. The results were satisfactory, presenting possible reductions in the costs of electricity bills of the consumer unit, as well as the consequences of changing the tariff mode.
