Resumo: Strongyloidiasis is a neglected intestinal infection caused by the parasite Strongyloides stercoralis, usually asymptomatic and related to precarious hygiene conditions. The objective of this study was to evaluate the gastrointestinal transit of BALB/c mice infected by Strongyloides venezuelensis using the Alternating Current Biosusceptometry (BAC) technique. Adult male mice were randomly divided into two groups: Control (n-5) and infected (n-5) who received a parasite load of 1500 L3 larvae. During 14 days post infection (dpi) the counting of eggs per grams of feces (OPG) was performed, confirming the infection of the animals. At 7 and 14° dpi, both groups were fasted for 12 hours and then received ration with magnetic marker. The following were determined using the BAC technique: the oro-anal transit time (OATT) and Percentage of the Final Excretion. In the results, OPG presented the peak of infection at 7dpi. The OATT was slowed down in the Infected group by 7dpi (140.0 min:34.6 min) compared to the Control (90.0 min+20.0 min) (p<0.01) and at 14dpi (93.2 min-9 4 min) (p<0.05) The percentage of Final Exeretion showed greater retention of ingested material in the Infected group at 7dpi (49.7 + 6.3%) compared to the Control (89.3% 9.36) (p0.001) and at 14dpi (81.0%ot8.5%) (p<0.001). It is concluded that the gastrointestinal transit of BALB/c mice infected by 1500 L3 larvac of Strongyloides venezuelensis showed alterations registered by the BAC around the peak of infection. becoming slowed down, which favors the reproduction of the parasites by reducing one of the biological mechanisms of expulsion and needs to be better investigated so that new therapeutic approaches can be applied in clinical practice.
