This work presents a brief historical contextualization of tattoo up to the moment it became a social practice of female empowerment, assuming that getting tattooed is a ways to define subjectivity, writing in one's body something that differentiates and identifies them before the attempts for social standardization. Our interviews and photographs bring women who made themselves available to tell their stories and show how they enhanced their bodies as a textual support in their pursue for owning their attitudes and will. This monograph is based on the work of theorists such as sociologist Michel Maffesoli and feminist philosopher Naomi Wolf. Through this work we intend to analyze body markings of tattooed women and if they use their tattoos as an attempt to recreate subjectivity according to their own criteria and interpretation of the world.
