For its development, a journal has to follow a well-structured path, based on resilience, to achieve the expected and desired recognition and, consequently, to be better evaluated in the rankings of journals (SERRA; FERREIRA, 2016). In Brazil, journals are organized in strata, according to criteria used by CAPES (SOARES, CASA NOVA, 2016). Thus, we have the following Research problem: what are the main distinctive features among the scientific journals of the administration area with Qualis classification superior to B3? This research has a quantitative and qualitative approach. Data collection was performed through the filtering process and the detailed analysis of each journal based on Qualis 2013-2016 criteria (Administration, Accounting and Tourism). Regarding data processing, statistical models of discriminant analysis were used. The results allowed to identify the 25 distinguishing features, besides discerning and considering on the aspects: general panorama on the existing editorials; and provided a "map of the steps" to follow to achieve every aspect of the Qualis classification in the scientific editorial setting of the area of Administration, Accounting and Tourism. It should be emphasized that the journals differ in terms of quality-oriented aspects, techniques for attracting good research and indexing, in a way that seeks parameters that can guarantee the quality and development of its agents involved in the editorial process. To enrich the findings, it would be intriguing to apply the 25 variables in a study with A1 periodicals to identify the distinctive characteristics of this group.
