Resumo: Rice (Oryza sativa) is a cereal that has high socioeconomic importance and is one of the main sources of energy for the Brazilian population. The objective of this work was to evaluate the response of rice cultivars to fertilization in coverage with thermophosphate, in a no-tillage system. The experiment was conducted in the city of Ji-Paraná - RO. The experimental design was randomized blocks in split plots (2 x 5), with four replications, totaling 40 experimental units. The plots were composed of two rice cultivars (ANA 5015 and BRS A501 CL) and the subplots the doses of P on covered (70, 140, 210 kg ha-1) and a control without phosphate fertilization. The fertilizer used was the thermophosphate Nutrisolo SP. The P influenced the NPA, NSP, LD, NFG and PRO. Cultivar ANA 5015 was more responsive to phosphate fertilization in thermophosphate coverage. The variables NFG, NPA and PE showed a positive correlation in PRO in both cultivars. Despite not being a common practice used in agricultural, the application of P in coverage proved to be effective and very efficient for nutrition in the cultivars tested here.
