SIZE AND SHAPE OF SAMPLES FIXED TECA AREA IN NORTHERN OF MATO GROSSO ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to determine the relative efficiency and accuracy in nine treatments consisting of different sizes and shapes combinations of plots teak plantation (Tectona grandis L. F.). The study was conducted on a thirteen years old population, approximately 164 ha, at Sinop, MT. Circular plots were installed, square and rectangular approximately 200, 400 and 600m², with 17 replicates per treatment installed. The portion was more accurate the circular of 400m² with relative standard deviation the ± 4.75% ± 5.13% ± 8.96% and ± 8.60% for the DHB, number of trees per hectare, volume per hectare basal area per hectare, respectively. The most efficient plot was a rectangular of 200 m² with value of 4.79, 1.30, 0.32 and 0.35 for the DHB, number of trees per hectare, volume per hectare and basal area per hectare respectively. We conclude that for inventories where the goal is precision, the most appropriate portion is circular and inventories 400m ² where the goal is to reduce costs, the most suitable is rectangular 200m².
