PROFILE OF THESES AND DISSERTATIONS INVOLVING RATIONAL NUMBERS IN THE CAPES CATALOG

This article aims to present a profile of theses and dissertations available in the Catalog of the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) produced in Brazil involving rational numbers in the context of the Elementary School curriculum. The search in the CAPES system was performed from the following expressions: "rational number", "fraction" and "decimal number". It is a qualitative research in the State of the Art modality. We adopted as a research method the approach to the bibliographic literature review in three stages: 1) systematic review for data collection in an organized and pre-defined way; 2) bibliometric analysis through digital spreadsheets and creation of graphs; and 3) analysis of spreadsheet data articulating them with possible interpretations of bibliometric graphs. The profile found indicated considerable focus on the semiotic system of fractions, bringing, even, approaches that impair the understanding that fractions and decimal numbers are semiotic numerical systems possible to represent the same mathematical object, namely, rational numbers. Therefore, there is a real need to promote studies on rational numbers that discuss the teaching of this object from semiotic conversion activities between the fractional record and the decimal record.
