Resumo: This study provides contributions on the ludic activities applied in science teaching and environmental awareness, in which the children's interest, participation, imagination, and creativity are strengthened. The objective of this research was to understand how ludic activities contribute to the science teaching and sensitization of elementary school students using Amazonian chelonians as a main theme. This work was carried out in a riverside school located in the municipality of Parintins-AM. This is qualitative research, with a phenomenological approach. The subjects were 14 students attending the 3rd grade. Data were collected using participant observation techniques and theater of masks. The speeches and expressions of the students were described and interpreted. As results, we can emphasize that the theater of masks allowed the children a different look of the world around them and the sharing of knowledge about the preservation of the "tracajá" (Podocnemis unifilis) chelonian. We found that ludic activities are important for the assimilation of scientific concepts and the awareness of students about the environmental problems of the community.
