Resumo: This research investigated processes of formation of a more critical awareness and learning of citizenship among students from Liceu Cuiabano (School) between the years 1926 and 1937. The main source of the work was studant newspapers of the period: A Chrysallida (1926, 1927, 1928, 1932), O Délio (1931), O Liceísta (1933), O Estudante (1934), A Voz do Aluno (1934), O Mensageiro do aluno (1935) and Folha Juvenil (1937). The student newspaper, also known as periodical or studant press, is roughly part of a set of publications called Educational Press. (NÓVOA, 1997). It was fundamental to identify the representations and practices regarding the citizen‘s education which were foreseen by those periodicals as well as the educational model implemented in the period, which was decisive in the construction process of that citizen. We were interested in realizing the positioning of that of that high school student in this cultural practice: If he/she took a reproductive position of the citizenship models established by official speeches and/or if he/she, meanwhile, suggested new appropriations and more emancipatory ways of being. Our methodological approach to research was the documentary historical analysis. Because it is not a question of the History of Press, but a historical investigation of everyday life through the press, we focused on aspects of internal criticism of the sources and examined more carefully the contents of the articles aiming at researching its consistency with the facts and social situation. In fact, we took a perspective of the New Cultural History in the analysis of the documentary corpus and a point of view which directed its efforts towards the daily life of those producer students, their consumption practices and cultural production. Certeau (2003) was one of our theoretical options in this study once we identified with his constructivist meaning of Cultural History. Besides an appropriation of the research subjects, a creation. The central categories to which we relied on were the youth‘s, student newspaper‘s, non-formal education‘s, secondary education‘s, citizenship‘s and culture‘s. Our initial hypothesis was that a process of expansion and formation for the citizenship began to be established among students in the early years of the twentieth century from their mobilization in the production of studant periodicals. Youth activism in the in the clerk area and in the production of periodicals, mainly a result of new educational theories and methodologies put into circulation in the late nineteenth century as the intuitive method, active teaching and New School, put the student at the center of educational activity based on observation, on the learning by doing and on the experiences of the real. At the end of this study, the thesis was partly taken up. We detected that student's journalism among Liceu Cuiabano's students was a considerable factor in the process of the formation of a more critical youth's awareness, under an intelectual and cognitive improvement bias, but essentially in the beginning of a new way of positioning and expressing before the social scenario, in a process of gestation of a more autonomous citizen. The outcome of the analysis learned here encourages us to think that Certeau‘s association between the "art of doing" (besides consuming old cultural repertoires, producing new ones) and the "art of living" (experience), allowed the youth of the beginning the twentieth century to take up the space which was not occupied by students in earlier times; their tactics on the cultural dimension allowed them to get their own freedom and autonomy, advances which were passed to new generations.

O trabalho teve como fonte central jornais estudantis do período: A Chrysallida (1926, 1927,1928, 1932), O Délio (1931), O Liceísta (1933), O Estudante (1934), A Voz do Aluno (1934), O Mensageiro do aluno (1935) e a Folha Juvenil (1937). O jornal estudantil, também conhecido como periódico ou imprensa estudantil, insere-se, grosso modo, num conjunto de publicações a que se denominou chamar de imprensa educacional. (NÓVOA, 1997). Fundamental foi a identificação de representações e práticas relativas à formação do cidadão que esses periódicos deixaram antever, tanto quanto o modelo educativo implementado no período decisivo no processo de construção deste cidadão. Interessava-nos perceber o posicionamento deste jovem secundarista nesta prática cultural: se assumira postura de reprodutor dos modelos de cidadania instituídos pelos discursos oficiais e/ou se, paralelamente, propunha novas apropriações e maneiras de ser mais emancipadoras. Nossa opção metodológica de pesquisa foi pela análise histórica documental. Por não tratar-se de uma História da Imprensa, mas de investigação histórica do cotidiano através da imprensa, detivemos nossa atenção a aspectos da crítica interna das fontes, examinando mais cuidadosamente os conteúdos dos artigos com finalidade de investigação de sua coerência com fatos e a conjuntura social. Nesta direção, assumimos uma perspectiva da Nova História Cultural na análise do corpus documental e um ponto de vista que privilegiasse o cotidiano desses produtores-alunos, suas práticas de consumo e produção cultural. Certeau (2003) foi uma de nossas opções teóricas neste trabalho ao nos identificarmos com sua acepção construtivista da História Cultural. Para além de uma apropriação dos sujeitos da pesquisa, uma criação. As categorias centrais a que nos apoiamos foram as da juventude, dos jornais estudantis, da educação não formal, do ensino secundário, da cidadania e cultura. Nossa hipótese inicial foi a de que um processo de ampliação e formação para a cidadania começou a estabelecer-se entre os estudantes nos anos iniciais do século XX a partir de sua mobilização na produção dos periódicos estudantis. O ativismo juvenil na área escriturária e na produção de periódicos, resultado principalmente das novas teorias e metodologias educacionais postas em circulação nos fins do século XIX como o método intuitivo, o ensino ativo e escolanovista, colocavam o aluno no centro da atividade pedagógica com bases na observação, no aprender-fazendo e nas experiências com o real. À conclusão dos estudos, a tese se nos apresentou parcialmente contemplada. Verificamos que o jornalismo estudantil entre os alunos do Liceu Cuiabano foi fator considerável no processo de formação de uma consciência juvenil mais crítica, num viés de aprimoramento intelectual e cognitivo mas, fundamentalmente na inauguração de uma nova forma de se posicionar e se manifestar frente ao cenário social; num processo de gestação de um sujeito cidadão e mais autônomo.
