Resumo: | INTRODUCTION: work demands and work environment conditions can lead to the development of several health complications, including repetitive motion injuries and workrelated musculoskeletal disorders. These injuries are consequences of a phenomenon directly related to damage from overuse of the musculoskeletal system. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate musculoskeletal symptoms and associated factors in elementary school teachers from the municipal public network in the city of Cuiabá in 2017. METHODOLOGY: this is a crosssectional study, carried out in 2017 with 326 teachers from the municipal public network of Cuiabá. For data collection, the instruments, Teacher's Vocal Production Condition, SelfReporting Questionnaire and the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire were used, the latter being used to assess the outcome variable of the occurrence or not of musculoskeletal symptoms in the last twelve months. For data analysis, a descriptive and bivariate inferential analysis was performed, using the chi-square test and prevalence ratios with 95% confidence intervals. Subsequently, a multiple analysis was performed using the Poisson regression model with robust variance. RESULTS: Teachers had an average age of 43.01 years, the majority being female (87.12%), married or in a union (62.70%), with a postgraduate level of education (73. 93%) and who worked at a single school (58.95%). With regard to musculoskeletal symptoms, 76.07% reported the presence of musculoskeletal symptoms in the last 12 months. In the bivariate analysis, there was a significant association between the outcome and the variables functional situation, work organization and health condition. In the multiple analysis, there was a statistically significant association between musculoskeletal symptoms and teachers who were hired (RPa=0.82, p=0.003), performed intense physical exertion (RPa=1.22, p=0.045), carried weight frequently (ARP=1.26, p=0.017) and had symptoms for common mental disorders (ARP=1.45, P<0.001). CONCLUSION: there was a high prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms in the last year, mainly associated with the teacher's working conditions. Such conditions were presented as a risk factor among teachers who performed physical exertion, frequently carried weight and reported symptoms suggestive of common mental disorders. However, a protective factor was identified between the bonding factor, in the category contracted teachers and symptoms. Also, the observed interaction between the variable performing physical exertion and carrying weight with the symptoms was evidenced as a protective factor. Thus, the characteristics of work analyzed in this study show a reality that suggests better attention to the situation of musculoskeletal symptoms among teachers of public elementary schools in Cuiabá. |
