Guarantã do Norte – MT : um estudo sobre a cidade a partir da percepção dos estudantes de escolas públicas

The present research entitled, Guarantã do Norte – MT: a study about the city from the perception of public schools students, focused on the teaching of Geography from the place of the student, his/her city, their lived spaces, their territorialities, understanding that education and, therefore, the discipline of Geography must have as targets the student and the construction of a citizen practice. Thus, using a qualitative approach and anchored in the phenomenological method, were interviewed twenty students from the ninth year of Elementary School at Municipal School Estrelinha do Norte and twenty students from the third year of High School at State School Albert Einstein, totaling forty participants. Both schools are located in the city of Guarantã do Norte, in the state of Mato Grosso. The research aimed to analyze how students perceive the place and the city and how these themes are used in the classroom practice in the Geography discipline. It was also investigated how these contents are contemplated in the Geography planning of the analyzed schools. As a theoretical basis, anchoring was sought in authors such as Cavalcanti, Callai, Vygotsky and Libâneo. It was found that the lived spaces are valued by the students both from an affective point of view and as possibilities for the practice of teaching Geography. However, from the point of view of the significance of these contents in the lives of these students, it was noticed that they are not contemplated in the teachers' plans and this makes it impossible to teach Geography focused on the students' reality and, consequently, needs to be reviewed in the school curricula in order to enrich the pedagogical practice.
