In 2015, an epidemic of cases of children born with microcephaly occurred in Brazil. In Mato Grosso, 69 cases were confirmed, which represents 2.32% of the cases in Brazil, whose total was 2,969 confirmed cases between epidemiological weeks 45/2015 and 40/2019 (Ministry of Health, 2019). The increase in the number of Zika virus infections was significant and the impacts arising from this event need to be understood. The syndrome has also become known as microcephaly, although this manifestation is not indispensable for the confirmation of the diagnosis, it is one of the striking predicates of the syndrome. The present work aimed to understand the subjective experience of mothers assisted in a Rehabilitation Specialized Center (CER lll), in Cuiabá, facing the experience of having a child with Congenital Syndrome by Zika Virus. It is a phenomenological research, a study of what is lived, ideal for understanding singular experiences, where there is the intention to know the perceptions that people elaborate about the lived experience. The data were accessed through the Experiential Interview, a methodological proposal that emphasizes affective and emotional aspects, following the assumptions of the Person-Centered Approach (PCA), the understanding of the experiences shared by the mothers of children with SCZ was based on the PCA. The main results were that mothers considered as good those experiences that allowed them to experience their feelings and needs being accepted by the medical team, family and friends. Having access to therapies, financial resources, leisure and selfcare practices were pointed out as significant in the association with mental health. The coronavirus pandemic impacted on the subtraction of therapies, by the closing of day-care centers that made it difficult to be linked to paid work, when the mother did not have a support network to share the care for the child. Finally, the possibility of facing the death of the child allowed a re-signification of the way of living, supporting the search for emotionally meaningful experiences. It is hoped that the results can contribute to the understanding of maternal mental health and enable proposals for psychosocial intervention for this population.
