Olhando para onde a sombra se adensa : Instituto Millenium e o revisionismo histórico da ditadura civil-militar

The articulation of conservative groups around an organization that intend to defend its interests can be noticed as something usual. In Brazil we can notice the existence of groups that not only have such aim, but also the continuity and persistence of some companies in this articulation. Two interest groups to analyze this persistence, that can be named are Instituto de Pesquisas e Estudos Sociais (Institute of Social Studies and Research — IPES) and Instituto Millenium (Millenium Institute — Imil). In both groups there are the strong presence of some companies, as well as participation of opinion makers, like intellectuals, specialists and communication professionals. One of the biggest differences between both groups is the period of time in which they existed. IPES was created on November 30th of 1961, until 1971. On the other hand, the creation of Imil occurred in 2005, by this time its name was Instituto da Realidade Nacional (Institute of National Reality), it was changed to Instituto Millenium in 2006. The Instituto Superior de Estudos Sociais (Institute of Social Studies — ISEB) would mark the opposite way compared to IPES ideological position. Created before IPES, in 1955, and formed exclusively by intellectuals, ISEB will keep its focus and concerns into solutions to social issues in national development, meanwhile IPES will defend liberal positions and the security of the biggest multinational companies. We will observe the political roles played by those two last groups, ISEB and IPES, discussing both roles and their intellectuals within national-development political scenario. Imil, being recognized as a think tank, in which members are intellectuals and neoliberal technicians will be investigated from the conception and the endurance of conservative thinking, being composed by some groups and companies that also took part in IPES. The historical revisionism practiced by Imil members, such as Leandro Narlock and Marco Antonio Villa, will be analyzed as they reduce the violent impact of the civil- military dictatorship from 1964 to 1985 and legitimize the violent political persecution against the opposition as a necessity.
