SISTEMATIZAÇÃO DA ASSISTÊNCIA DE ENFERMAGEM EM UMA INSTITUIÇÃO DE LONGA PERMANÊNCIA PARA IDOSOS: PESQUISA-AÇÃO ESTRATÉGICA

This research has the following objectives: To describe the knowledge of professionals working in a long-stay institution for the elderly about the Systematization of Nursing Care before and after the awareness workshop; and, understanding the strengths, weaknesses and strategies experienced by professionals working in a Long Stay Institution for the Elderly, in the consolidation of the nursing process. This is a strategic action research, developed with nursing professionals and the management of a Long Stay Institution for the Elderly, located in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, in two moments: initially, in January and February 2023 (moment 1). After the initial stage of data collection, a workshop was held with the participants in May 2023 to raise awareness of professionals on issues related to the Systematization of Nursing Care. The workshop was carried out from a conversation wheel, in a circle, in a space in the institution itself, and lasted an average of one hour. The activity was coordinated by a nurse, a researcher in the field of aging and with experience in the subject. After the workshop, between May and June 2023, new semi-structured interviews were carried out (moment 2), conducted using the same instrument used in the first moment to assess the participants' knowledge. All interviews were recorded with an MP3 player and transcribed mechanographically by the researchers, with the help of Microsoft Word (version 16.31) and, afterwards, they were submitted to Discursive Textual Analysis. The data resulted in two central categories. The first, called: understanding about the Systematization of Nursing Care in the Long Stay Institution for the Elderly, generated four categories of analysis, namely: (Lack) knowledge about the Systematization of Nursing Care; (Lack of) knowledge about the Nursing Process; Absence of the nursing process in the ILPI: punctual and linear care; Knowledge of the Systematization of Care and the Nursing Process: perceptions after the awareness workshops. The second central category is called: Nursing Process in the Long Stay Institution for the Elderly, which resulted in three base units: potentialities; weaknesses and strategies, which led to the nine categories of analysis. Such data were systematized in two manuscripts. This research contributed to the knowledge and awareness of professionals about the Systematization of Nursing Care and the Nursing Process in Long Stay Institutions for the Elderly, which could have repercussions on the management of care and on the unique assistance to each of the elderly people residing in the scenario.
