Resumo: It has as objective to discuss some relations between arts, abandoned places and ruins. It presents a brief historic retrospective of artists whose works are related with this theme, beginning in the 17th century towards the 20th century until nowadays. The text calls upon the thinking of the author Andreas Huyssen to discuss the feeling of nostalgia aroused by thouse places and the influence that it may have on the contemporary arts production. It analyzes artworks made by contemporary artists - from different countries – whose works are related to the ruinous universe. The article still investigates the beauty of abandoned and ruinous places according to the concept of “convulsive beauty” created by André Breton, a kind of beauty which differs from the concepto of “beauty” proposed by Edmund Burke.

São discutidas algumas das relações entre arte, lugares abandonados e ruínas. É feita uma breve retrospectiva histórica de artistas que trabalham com essa temática, se iniciando no século XVII, passando pelo século XX e chegando aos dias atuais. O texto recorre ao pensamento do autor Andreas Huyssen para discutir o sentimento de nostalgia despertado por esses lugares e influências que ele pode ter na produção de arte contemporânea. São analisadas obras de artistas contemporâneos de diversos países que abordam o universo ruinoso em suas produções.
