Summary: This article analizes the multicultural approach of music experience, proposed by New Philosophy of Music Education (NFME), as presented in its multidimensional model. At fi rst, I present the central ideas of multiculturalism and after that, at what extent its infl uence on the multidimentional vision of NFME, that comprehends a triple sense of the word ‘music’: a universal human practice, a contextualized human practice and the emboidement of that practice into musical works.

Apresento, primeiramente, as idéias centrais do multiculturalismo e em seguida sua infl uência na visão multidimensional da NFEM, que comporta uma tríplice compreensão do termo ‘música’: uma atividade humana universal, uma atividade humana com manifestações contextualizadas e a cristalização desta atividade na forma de obras musicais.
